Organización

A la cabeza del ejército se encuentra la Comisión Militar Central, cuyo presidente es en la actualidad Hu Jintao. Aunque técnicamente existen dos comisiones militares centrales, una del Partido y otra del Estado, ambas tienen exactamente los mismos miembros por lo que en la práctica se trata de una sola institución. A diferencia de lo que ocurre en casi todos los países del mundo, en la República Popular China el Ministerio de Defensa no tiene autoridad sobre el ejército y su ámbito de actuación se limita a las relaciones militares con el exterior.

Fuerzas

El EPL es el mayor ejército del mundo en número de tropas, con más de dos millones y medio de soldados y desde los años 1980 participa en actividades económicas con el fin de autofinanciarse sin depender del Estado. Estas actividades económicas incluyen la venta de tecnología militar a otros países y también ámbitos no militares. Precisamente la extensión de las actividades económicas del ejército a todo tipo de negocios ha levantado la preocupación del gobierno que, en los últimos años, ha intentado frenar esta expansión empresarial del ejército, que ha estado rodeada de acusaciones de corrupción y sobornos.

Actualidad

Desde mediados de la década del 90 del siglo XX y principios del siglo XXI el EPL se esta modernizando rápidamente tanto por importaciones de tecnologías avanzadas como la creación propia de armas avanzadas cuyo propósito más cercano es la ocupación militar de la isla de Taiwan si las negociaciones fracasan y hacerse del control militar de Asia-Pacífico en correspondencia con su status económico originando recelos en EEUU y países vecinos.

Delta Force

El 1.º Destacamento-Delta Operacional de Fuerzas Especiales (SFOD-D) (en inglés: 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta) — comúnmente conocidas como Delta en el Ejército de EE.UU., Delta Force por civiles, y Grupo de Aplicaciones de Combate (CAG) por el Departamento de Defensa — es una fuerza de operaciones especiales y una unidad del Grupo de Comandos de Operaciones Especiales (JSOC).

Las tareas principales para las que está preparada la Delta Force son el contraterrorismo, la contrainsurgencia y las operaciones de intervención a nivel nacional. Son un grupo capaz de asumir muchas misiones, incluyendo, pero no limitados a, rescates de rehenes, redadas y eliminación de fuerzas secretas enemigas. La Fuerza Delta realiza un papel similar al del Servicio Aéreo Especial (SAS), de Inglaterra, en el que se basan sus orígenes.

El Pentágono controla cuidadosamente la información de la Delta Force y rehuye a comentar nada o dar a conocer datos sobre las unidades y sus actividades.

Los miembros de la Delta Force tienen una gran autonomía y flexibilidad, como sus compañeros DEVGRU. Normalmente van vestidos con ropa civil incluso cuando se encuentran en su base de Fort Bragg. Esto se hace para encubrir la identidad de estos ‘soldados secretos’. Cuando visten uniformes militares no llevan ningún tipo de marca, nombres o apellidos en ellos. También les permiten llevar el pelo y el vello facial como población civil para que no sean fácilmente reconocibles como personal militar..

75º Regimiento Ranger

El 75º Regimiento Ranger (en inglés: 75th Ranger Regiment), también conocido como Rangers del Ejército de los Estados Unidos (United States Army Rangers) es una unidad de infantería ligera de operaciones especiales del Ejército de los Estados Unidos.

El Regimiento está compuesto por las fuerzas de infantería ligera que están rápidamente desplegables con las habilidades especializadas que les permiten realizar una variedad de misiones de operaciones especiales - Fuerzas aerotransportadas, el asalto aéreo, y operaciones de acción directas, incursiones, infiltración y exfiltración por avión, por tierra, por mar, el asimiento de campo de aviación, la recuperación de personal y el equipo especial, y el apoyo de las fuerzas objetivas generales (GPF), entre otros empleos. Cada batallón Ranger espera desplegar en cualquier parte del mundo dentro de 18 horas de aviso previo.

Los Rangers son la unidad primaria de infantería ligera del US Army. Tienen la misión primaria de planificar y conducir misiones especiales en apoyo de la política y los objetivos marcados desde el gobierno de los Estados Unidos.

El lema de los Rangers es "Siempre los primeros". De hecho han participado como primera fuerza de ataque en muchas de las operaciones importantes en diferentes guerras.
